How to get to Swanage

Swanage Carnival MapSwanage is at the end of a small peninsular on the South central coast of England.
It is served by bus and train and is only a few hours drive from London
Swanage can be reached in one of two ways: Swanage Carnival Map
By chain ferry from Sandbanks (Poole) or
By road via Wareham and Corfe Castle.

Travel directions via Wareham
From the East: From the M3 join the M27 West towards Ringwood and Bournemouth.
From Ringwood, take the A31 to Bournemouth and follow signs for Poole/Dorchester.
Just after Wimborne take the A349 to Poole. You will eventually see signs for Wareham and the A35.
Follow the signs to Wareham. You will joing the A351 through Sandford and to Wareham.
From Wareham take the A351 through Corfe Castle and to Swanage

Travel directions via the Sandbanks chain ferry:
From the East: From the M3 join the M27 West towards Ringwood and Bournemouth
Just after Ringwood take the A338 to Bournemouth
Follow this road right through Bournemouth until it runs out at the Liverpool Victoria roundabout
Follow the signs for Sandbanks and Swanage to the chain ferry.
Once off the ferry follow the B3351 to Studland Approximately 3/4 mile out of the village turn left and follow signs for Swanage

Park and Ride
Car parking is limited in Swanage and traffic queues on carnival day can be long and hot so why not let the train take the strain?
Swanage Railway (c) Chris Phillips Park your car at Nordon Park and Ride just before Corfe Castle and catch a steam train to Swanage. Swanage Railway will be running extra trains during carnival week and late evening trains that leave after the firework displays. see Swanage Railway for details

From Bournemouth (Wilts & Dorset Bus 50)
From Poole (Wilts & Dorset Bus 40)

Train information:
Nearest main line railway station is at Wareham, 10 miles. There is an hourly bus connection to Swanage: Wilts & Dorset 40.


Sandbanks car ferry operates every day from 7am - 11pm every 20 mins.
